Hello King of Gear, just wonder, how is it that Ed gets those Etherial Tones for Lotus Flower and if you have time videotape. That Fender video really got me thinking of a new way to play guitar - after denying my love for Ed's parts for so long, saying he's not a real guitarist, without him Radiohead wouldn't sound as massive - any tips?

Hello! Here’s my article dedicated to how Ed makes those sounds.

It doesn’t cover Lotus Flower specifically, but that track is very straightforward, and I’m not really sure I’d even consider it an example of his “Ethereal Tones.” All he uses is a delay set short most of the track, then distortion and a couple of delays during the final chorus.

As I’ve said before, the important thing with Ed’s sounds is not the gear that he uses, but how he uses the specific types of effects that he does.
